DuPont™ Corian® is a material created and produced by DuPont™, one of the biggest chemical companies in the USA. It was first introduced to the American market in the 1960’s, after long-term testing in laboratories and in practice. The success among designers and architects brought about the global expansion of the company. Thanks to this expansion towards the global market DuPont™ Corian® became a brand known worldwide.
DuPont™ Corian® is a solid surface material composed of acrylic polymer and mineral filler (ATH). Its structure is solid, the color and texture runs through the whole depth of the material. Its surface is homogeneous, solid and non-porous. One of the greatest attributes of DuPont™ Corian® is its resistance of water, moisture and chemicals. The colors of DuPont™ Corian® range on a wide scale from unicolor variants to small or big granular natural stone and marble imitations.
DuPont™ Corian® is available in two standard thicknesses at our company. The 6 mm thick sheets are perfect for covering vertical surfaces, like wall-claddings or covering sides of counters, etc. (however this thickness is not available in every colour). The 12 mm thick sheets can be transformed into kitchen or reception countertops, sinks, washbasins, baths, seatings, tables, bookshelves, and other atypical elements.
DuPont™ Corian® is easy to handle, incidental damage caused by hot pans or cigarette burns can easily be removed using cleansers and scouring pads. Deeper scratches on the surface can be fixed on the site by grinding and polishing the surface, in some cases it is necessary first to repair the site of the damage, then do as previously described.
When designing interiors and products made of DuPont™ Corian® architects and designers are able to fulfill every demand of the customers and their only limit is imagination. DuPont™ Corian® can be fabricated like hardwood: it can be cut, drilled, milled, grinded, polished and moreover when heated to 160 ºC it can be thermoformed in moulds allowing even the creation of curved shapes. Pieces of DuPont™ Corian® can be glued together inconspicuously to create invisible seams. In practice it gives endless possibilities to create various – even atypical counters, furniture or other accessories in any length and width. Neither the fabricators nor the designers are restricted by the standard size of the sheets.
The use of DuPont™ Corian® is remarkably versatile. It can be applied in kitchens, bathrooms, offices, hotels, laboratories, restaurants, bars, banks and hospitals. It combines the look of natural stone with the advantages of the excellent technical attributions of modern materials.
